Life Insurance Calculator

Estimate the life insurance cover your family may need

A life insurance policy is meant to do more than replace income. It may need to help your family manage outstanding liabilities, meet important financial commitments and maintain regular expenses if you are no longer around to provide for them.

This calculator is designed to give an indicative estimate of life insurance cover based on liabilities, family goals, ongoing expenses and existing financial resources.

Inputs

Build your estimate

1 Outstanding liabilities

Include current loans or liabilities your family may need to deal with in your absence.

2 Family goals & commitments

Include major financial goals or commitments you would want provided for. Enter present values where applicable.

3 Corpus for future family expenses

Estimate the corpus your family may need to meet regular expenses over the years.

4 Existing financial resources

Only include assets or resources realistically available to support your family’s needs.

How this calculator works

It adds your liabilities and commitments to a future-expense corpus. The corpus uses adjusted annual expenses, inflation, tax on investment income, expected returns and years of support (annuity-due present value). Existing resources are then subtracted to arrive at additional cover required.
